i built a pond about 5 years ago. basically i lined hole in the ground. put some goldfish in but soon lost interest.

now i have a few years of proper aquarium keeping experience i decided to have another go at the pond so over the weekend i have vacuumed it and power sprayed it. i also found a 30cm long gold fish, (i thought they were all dead!)

i topped it back up and added some dechlorinator and put the goldfish back in. i also have some plants in there including a lilly and a huge gunera plant on the side.

i now want to add some more fish. it doesn't have a filter as such because it is really far away from power but i have a bermuda solar powered pump which helps circulate the water a bit. the pond is about 2000 litres. so at the moment i have 1 gold fish in there.

i was thinking about adding about 5 bog standard fancy goldfish (because they stay a bit smaller and look a bit more attractive from above.) but i was wondering if anyone else has any suggestions. i dont want koi for obvious reasons.

thanks

also how many fish could i potentially have?

Hi, Where abouts are you in the world and what are the rough dimensions?

Unless the pond has an area that is at least 3ft deep, then it is unlikely fancy goldfish will survive the winter
(assuming you are from the UK that is)

from south devon so doesnt get too cold. its a pentagon shape. about 4ft by 4ft and about 3ft and a half - 4ft deep.

I HAVE HAD BLUE ORFE FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS AND THEY ARE a great addition as always active

i thought about that. by working in a aquatics shop i have good access to pond fish. i was also thinking sticklebacks and maybe yellow canary goldfish.

however i dont think my pond will be big enough and not enough filtration
