I am very new to marine fish keeping still but wondered what people felt about stocking level advice given from a lfs for a Bayu 550tl. I think I now know the answer.

I had had the tank for about two months and had 2 clown fish, a blue cheek goby, a regal tang, and a cleaner shrimp. All of which had been recommended by the store.

I visited the store and asked about making additions to the tank. I liked the look of a stripped angel and a butterfly fish. I was advised that both were suitable so bought them.

The next day I noticed that the butterfly fish seemed to be struggling. I went to the store and was advised to add a chemical to reduce nitrites. I then watched in horor as one by one they died and in time I lost all of the soft corals as well.

I was wondering what people think of this and would they continue to use this store?

You are asking the question Stephan, but you know the answer - don't cross their palms with silver any more

ps what are you going to do with the regal tang, i'm guessing it's a small juvie atm,

Unfortunately I lost all of the fish at the same time which was very distressing.

I now go to a different lfs who have been excellent. I upgraded to a 270 litre tank and they advised against a blue tang as the tank was too small!! I would like to name the new store and its manager but not sure if that is allowed.

Name and shame............lfs

A5 Aquatics. Nuneaton. Gave bad advice.

Maidenhead Aquatics Nottcuts Garden Centre Shirley. Dave (Manager) is very knowledgable and if not certain will check things out. Will take time to discuss issues with you. Can`t recommend them enough. Good range of corals and fish with very reasonable prices. If do not have items in stock they will try to find them for you.
