Got a 4 foot tank at the weekend and straight in went my 9 bronze cories m and f bn plecos and one of my bettas, then went fish shop yesterday brought out their bronze corys (8) 10 neons and 5 ghost shrimp, so the tank currently has 17 bronze cories, 2 bn plecos, 15 cherry barbs, 1 betta and 5 ghost shrimp.

Im looking for something else for midwater, that will look good with the barbs, with a good temperament cos if they bother my cories i will prob send them back to the shop  have a good filter so over stocking a little bit wont be a problem -_-:

Cheers for any suggestions also i might replace the betta with another centre piece fish was thinking maybe a gourami but not sure?

cheers

I would get another 10 neons and a pair of keyholes, myself.. although keyholes might nip at the shrimp. Nice to see you keeping schools!

Yeh i was plannin on prob throwing another 10 neons in, not sure about cichlids had kribs before where a bit nippy towards the cories, never kept keyholes tho.

Yeh look better in schools

Keyholes are extremely peaceful, in my experience 7 years of keeping them. The only point I would make is that the con-specific aggression is very high when a breeding pair is involved.. but they never bothered my neons nor Corys while they spawned. I started off with a pair in a 4ft tank, and now still have them and offspring. Absolutely lovely fish, but will only show their true colours if kept with dither fish and have a lot of hiding places.

how big do they grow? might get some have looked at them before

Mine are 5" for males and 3" for females, but I hear the males are unusually large, from some people.. if you do go for some, I would recommend getting 6 and keeping the best 2 after they pair off.

Is you want midwater that will look nice with neons, I recently purchased 6 Red tailed rasboras and they look great! I also got 5 Emerald eye rasboras as well. Both very peaceful and they leave my hi-fin bronze cory's alone.

Cheers,
Alessa!

Still got my mind on some keyholes eventually, not totally sure tho. May go for some honey gouramis or something as a centre piece.

Might look into some rasboras, alot of the shops round here they ent the best quality tho so dont look as nice, well harlequins anyway but will have a look at another school of something.

Decided to trade the neons for cherry barbs, just the neons are overly nippy and followed my betta around which annoyed the hell out of me so they are going to a mate along with one of my old tanks.

So atm ive got 17 bronze corys, 2 BN plecs, 1 betta, 5 glass shrimp and 15 cherry barbs.

Cherry barbs are small atm so will double atleast i rekon will prob add in a honey gourami or 2 depending on what they will be like with my betta, had no problems with the cherry barbs, hes a bit battered and bruised now had him ages, so the occasional nip wont matter but anything like the neons that follow him around wont go down well with me

Anybody got any suggestions on what i could add? which will compliment whats in there i like how everything goes together atm.

cheers

Do any LFS's stock Drape Fin Barbs? i got some, but have only seens them in one shop. They are great little barbs (similar size to cherry)
If not, i would go with some tetra of some kind. I have recently got some X-ray which are nice, but i really like my Buenos Aires (spelling?) Tetra - but they might be bigger than what your looking for? they also might chase the Betta, and i don't know if they would eat the shrimp.

If it were me, i would re-home the betta as that would free up more ideas

havent seen the drape fins anywhere before, look nice tho!

Seen the tetras before but if they will be as nippy as neons maybe not, as for the betta ive had him too long to rehome, hes looking old so doubt hes gonna hang around for years  guess im gonna just have to wait and see what the lfs has when i go in, normally have some different things each time.

Any more ideas still welcome tho if theres something i want im sure the guy at my lfs can order some in for me if they dont usualy stock them, will ask about the drape fins
