Hello, I visited my LFS yesterday and talk for an hour r two with a couple employees there. I told them about wanting rainbows or congos. One of them gave me a good idea, move the HRP pair to a 29 gallon, and make my 55 into a community. I then walked around, made a list of compatible fish, and choose some for a stocking. Some of these fish I have never tried before.
Stock Idea:
10x Bronze Corydoras
2x Farowella Catfish
2x Clown Plecos
6x Bolivian Rams
10x Albino Glowlight Tetras
14x Rummy nose Tetras
Group of 3, or group of 6 Celebes Rainbows
8x Hatchets
4x Yellow Panchax

I need your opinion, the people at the LFS saw no problems, I don't know if its over stocked or not when It comes to a community tank.

Thats quite a big stock list for a tank that size. I would personally cut it down a little but i assume they are not all going in at the same time...

Have you researched the required temperatures / hardness of the water for the fish? There sre some fish there i've never kept so cant really offer any info there without looking up my self.

has Tizer said, thats a lot of fish for a 55 gals... Dependant on your filtration and compatibility of the fish.Normal footprint is inch per slim bodied fish per gallon at adult size...

10x Bronze Corydoras - upto 3 inches each = 30
2x Farowella Catfish - upto 2 inches = 4
2x Clown Plecos - upto 5 inches = 10
6x Bolivian Rams - upto 3 inches = 18
10x Albino Glowlight Tetras - upto 1.5 inches = 15
14x Rummy nose Tetras - upto 2 inches = 28
Group of 3, or group of 6 Celebes Rainbows = upto 3 inches = 9 or 18
8x Hatchets - upto 2.5 inches = 20 inches
4x Yellow Panchax - upto 4 inches = 16

I'm keeping this tank at 7.0 ph, all fish are OK with this, and I may take out the glow lights, cories are just an option. I'm thinking going with 6 celebes, the farowella are very cool, I'm not doing 2 clown plecs, but a clown and a Bulldog. Got the Bulldog today :). I really want the group of panchax over the hatchets. Bolivians are a must, love these guys :)
I already have,
7x corys
2x Bolivian rams
1x Bulldog Plec
So my stock will become:
7x Corydoras = 21
6x Bolivian Rams = 18
1x Clown Pleco = 5
8x Rummy Nose Tetras = 16
6x Celebes Rainbow Fish = 18
4x Panchax = 16
so thats 94
I don't follow that rule, and my LFS only tells that rule to new fish keepers, they know me and saw long as everybody gets along, my filtration is up to par, then no problems.
They have a 135 gallon with large rainbows, angels, medium tetras like black widows and such, large barbs like golds and rosys, couple different plecos. Just an array of fish, and they are way overstocked if they stuck to that rule.
My tank is gonna be heavily planted, so nitrates and nitrites no problem when its done, I do regular %25 water changes, working on getting a pump from our pond that will run 150 GPH flow, plus my current filter does 55 gph
