right im shortly picking up a 5x2x2 tank and was originally looking to use it as a malawi tank but im toying with the idea of keeping the malawi's in my 65gal and setting this one up as a SA tank, i really love jags especially having seen forbys the few times i been over there before moving down the country, i also love the look of the texas, midas, salvini cichlids, green terrors and oscars but as i said in the title i have never kept SA's and would have a clue about compatability or stocking levels and there is so much conflicting info out there i thought id best ask here.
oh yeah if its possible i would like a couple of pairs or a pair of at least 1 of the above rather than just an assortment of different single specimens it its t all possible.

also anything i should really be aware of in the way of differences between keeping SA's and what im used to with my africans, eg is there much difference in preffered ph or temp etc ??

Hello, well i have kept a beautiful male jag brutis and also texas, midas, salvini cichlids, green terrors, oscars, acara, and at present a chocolate cichlid, my tanks also 5/2/2.....

as to all of these do not do it together, i had oscar/ jag/ vieja/ salvini/ green terror/ jack dempsey in the tank, fine for about 1year then hell opened the doors....

Now i have just a chocolate cichlid, you can look at peaceful cichlids like severums/ festivums/ chocolates/ earth eaters/ and things like keyholes/ tbar cichlids/ dwarf cichlids if your looking at more than one,

I however now have one cichlid and one snakehead together with pictus/ bala shark/ silver dollar/ sailfin plec/ which has been the most peaceful my tank has been since ive had it,been like this a good while now

well that pretty much sums it up then cheers nelly, just out of curiosity are there any other larger New world cichlids that CAN be kept together??

You could do a big Sev and eartheater comm in there which would be very nice if you got some of the bigger eartheaters like G.Altifrons or G.Abalios. Mix that with some Rotkeil sevs, G.Brasiliensis would be nice as well depending on temperment of the individual and for a bit of size contrast you could do G.Tapajos Red Head. Threadfin Acaras would fit into that group as well. Mix that with some plecs, big columbian teras or other large disk tetras and a trio of jaguar catfish and you have an amazing SA tank that I would give my left leg for :)
