Yes, I was thinking about this overnight - I thought the same: that it might just sink down between the gap of the gravels - especially during gravel vacuum 
I think as much as I would love to get some cories/loaches I will just have to wait until I get a bigger tank which I can set up with sand to start with.
There must be loads of people who set up fish tanks as newbies and realise all the different bits and pieces we should have thought of at the start - all the things that we should have done differently. Like I really regret starting up the tank with the mollies and sailfins as they will get about 3" long and now I will be limited as to how much other fish I can have in there - or the type of substrate etc.
