After looking through this site and my lfs I think this is what I am going to stock with, just wanted to make sure these fish will be ok together. The tank is 55 gallons.

10 Cardinal Tetras
2 neon tetras (survivors of my girl friends tank)
3 clown loaches
3 Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid (1m:2f)
3-5 bamboo shrimp

Now some questions, I was also thinking of getting an Angelfish but will it eat the tetras?
Also will anything bother the shrimp because I will not get them if their is a decent chance they will be eaten.
Open to any recommendations.
Thanks

well the 3 Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlids may not be a good idea as they are a semi aggressive cichlid, and if they spawn they get very territorial and aggressive, and may eat your neon tetras, and cardinal tetras. Also angelfish are a cichlid, and will prolly eat your neons, and cardinal tetras as it gets bigger. Dont forget that clown loaches to get up to 15 inches in length. I would suggest you make a nice planted tank with lots of schooling/shoaling tetras, barbs, rasporas, and fancy guppies.

I'd agree with dcj38 in that you may want to check into the dwarf cichlids, as if they do get large enough to eat tetras they probably will especially if they breed. As for the angels, they are cichlids but I have had angels with tetras before and it hasn't been a problem so while that too is a risk I can say I took it and had no problems.

Thanks for the replies.

I think I am going to cross the clown loaches off the list and keep the Cockatoo Dwarfs. Too bad because those loaches look so cool at the lfs. Found some posts of people keeping neon tetras with cockatoo dwarfs with no problems so I think I will give it a try. Maybe Angelfish after the tetras have gotten close to their max size.

thanks

Just wanted to point out that it is a VERY bad idea to put barbs with guppies, barbs are extremly nippy fish and would go right after the guppies fins. Cherry Barbs are more peaceful though, don't know if I would risk it still.
