okey I'm nearly at the stage to think about adding fish to my 30 I'm thinking (not all at once...)

pair of clowns
banggai cardinalfish (are these better as a pair?)
pistol shrimp / goby comb
maybe sixline to keep down the BW's :look:

couple of questions:

at some point in the next month or I'll be upgrading the hood to a luminaire, so i want to be sure that the goby won't try and jump if there are gaps, what sp. would be a good choice?

what would be good for the clowns to host with? I'm a bit worried from what I have read about nems dieing and taking most of the tank with them...

will the pistol be happy with cleaner shrimps?

or just any comments on the stocking plan?

thanks!

Lets see here, where to start...

Clowns dont need hosts, they can get on just fine without one. Sometimes they host in other tentacled corals though such as Euphylla (hammer, torch, frogspawn, bubble) species, elegance corals, tentacled plate corals, or other wierd things. I've seen clowns hosting in GSP, furry ricordea, sacrophytons, and even a few in tube worms...

I'd look at pajama cardinals instead of banggai since I think banggai look a little boring. JMO though.

The pistol shrimp and cleaner shrimp will have some initial growing pains but they should do just fine ultimately as they'll keep to their own sides of the tank.

I unfortunately cant comment on the jumpyness of goby species. I only have a bar goby and hes a known jumper, but then again he wont pair with a pistol either ;).

My only comments about your stocking plan is that 6-lines are a little boring as far as the wrasse family goes. Try looking for a fairy wrasse, or flasher wrasse instead. Lots more variety. Heck, if you got some different color morphs you could probably keep a couple different individuals in the same tank. I know I'm gonna add a second flasher wrasse to go with my current little guy. Here he is an example Paracheilinus Octotaenia

TBH i would stay away from cardinals, they just dont move! so boring! i had a pyjama one and omg ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ plus u always see them in the shop so they aint a popular one. But if you was to get one get the banggai as they look more natural and not 3 fish into 1.
