Hi I recently set up a 12 gallon (54Litre aquarium with hardness of 5dh, ph 6.8 and 60cm x 30cm x 30cm. I’m gonna add plants (Dwarf Sagittaria and Cryptocoryne Wendtii Green and Marino Moss Balls) so if you know a cheap, natural looking substrate (I was thinking black sand, unipac kivu it playsand) please let me know.

I was thinking of getting:
8-10 ember tetras
5-6 dwarf otos
4 blue velvet shrimp

Is this ok? I want my fish to be happy and healthy. if you have any alternative fish I’m open to suggestion, Thanks (p.s. I know about the cycling process)

I use Argos play sand, £5 for 15kg which goes a long way! Just give it a swish about in water and drain thoroughly a few times

The replies in the deleted threads said:

- otos need to be in a group of 6 or more and the tank is too small to support their diet
- ember tetras can be kept as a group of 15 in this sized tank
- shrimps (and otos) should be added at least a month after the tank has finished cycling to allow the biofilm time to develop.
