Okay folks, here's the deal. My 29 gallon smells and is cloudy, and I don't know why. It's currently housing 1 itty bitty cherry barb (a mistake, accidently hopped in the bag at the lfs) 1 red finned shark (rainbow shark) and 4 neon rosy barbs. Also in the tank are roughly 6 plastics, 1 live plant, 1 Tiki head cave thingy, and 1 fallen pillar. Oh yes... and one rum drinking skeleton ;)

For filtration the tank uses a Whisper Advanced 20-40 with the flow turned to about 3/4 (more than that and it's out of control) I do regular water changes, and vacuum the gravel quite regularly as well. It's been like this for a while now (about 3 months) and while the fish don't seem to mind, it's bugging the crap out of me. Any advice would be helpful.

And just because I know someone will ask, the PH is around 7.7, NitrItes are 0, Nitrates are about 20ppm, KH is around 120, and the GH is in the 150 region. (I don't have a test that does ammonia... but I'll probably get one at the LFS today.)

Thanks in advance.

Are all your fish accounted for? Maybe 1 died and you didnt notice. Have you checked your water lately? Are all the parameters ok.

When you say its cloudy, does it have a colour? A greenish one suggests algae. White would mean some fine particles/ organisms.

P.T.

As for recent checkings, those numbers are from lastnight. As for the color of the cloudy-ness... It looks white in the tank, but upon pumping out the water, it makes my white bucket look green. Having thought it might be algae, I've had the light off for the last few days in an attempt to let the algae die off.

As for if it's organisms, how would I go about offing the little buggers?
