Hi, what are the housing, etc. requirements for fw stingrays? are they difficult keep?
thanks!

i dont keep them myself but have read quite a bit about them.when adult even the smallest fw ray will need 6x2x2 or it might even be 6x3x2.people who keep them are CFC T1KARMANN and SHARP TOOTH they will be a lot more help :good:

yes, they are difficult to keep. There are many species of freshwater rays, dont be tempted to buy a ray from a shop labled as a teacup ray. they grow. They grow BIG. they can be very selective about water perameters and as said need a large tank of 4x3 base to be kept. i think the smallest ray is Potamotrygon scobina which stills grows to be about 12" in disc diameter.

rays are not that hard to take care of as long as your tank is big enought and you filtration is double what you would normaly have

25% water changes per week 1 when the rays are small and 2 as they get bigger

never buy a ray that you havent seen feeding get the shop owner to feed it when you are their then if the ray is what you want leave a deposite and return for the ray the next day or week dont take the owners word for it thats its feeding a healthy ray will never turn food down

never move a ray with a full belly

i agree, rays are MESSY! i just upgraded filtration on my tank, so now the water is being turned over close to 20 times an hour until my new filter is seeded, then i will take off my crappy old filter and it will be around 12-14 times an hour. not hard, but be prepared to feed lots, and clean lots
