Stingray With No Stinger

my stingray just shead his stinger I know that its supposed to happen every 3 months or so but he doesnt have one that came in is this odd or just the way it happens?

It's likely that the stinger was damaged if hes shed without a back up.

Usually when a ray sheds its spine it will have a fresh spine that has grown under the old one and thus never being without a stinger. Only when the new stinger is fully formed will the old one fall off.

But if the stinger is damaged during shipping the ray may shed the old one early.

As long as your rays feeding and acting normal there's nothing to worry about.

no hes fine all is well ive had him for awhile just never seen him without one and it would be kinda cool if it didnt grow back

I know I know, but today i finally became one with him and actually hand feed him and he didnt mind it cause my hands have always been close just not that close

I hand feed my 10" female motoro and she has a nice healthy 3" stinger. Get a piece of food big enough and I can play tug of war with her, being rather strong though she always gets her food.

If a rays going to sting you, they curl there tail up before whipping round and stabbing you.

My little lady just shed one of her stingers yesterday (and I found it)
Yeah I feel like a mom when her child has taken their first steps!
Weird though, not many people can understand the excitment though

my female has shed twice too and i have kept them both

Yeah I have kept the darn stinger and had to show the old man.
Though he does not seem to care....
All he cares is that the fish eat better than he does.
I can see myself in having a collection from all the rays.
