My male betta has built his mate a lovely bubble nest, I have seen her sitting under it but he doesnt approach her. -_- She seems quite interested but he seems to be a bit afraid.

Is this a problem that any one else has had?

Can you let me know if there are any signals I should look out for if she is ready for spawning?

Does the temperature matter?

As far as I know, a temperature of about 80 is good for bettas during spawning. Some breeders also will fluctuate the temperature to induce spawning. Also, a breeding pair should be well fed with high protein foods, preferably live, such as mosquito larvae, brine shrimp or bloodworm. If live food is not available use a similar substitute form of frozen or freeze dried.

When ready to spawn, female bettas will often display dark vertical stripes on the body, though they are less prominent in lighter pigmented fish.

Usually the male and female aren't kept together all the time (I don't know your situation), and just introduced during spawning and left together for 1-24 hours, however long it takes. Then the female is removed.

If spawning doesn't take place this time, maybe seperate them and try again next time. Good luck!
