Hello all...
Just wanted to check..I did a 1/4 water change the other day on my tank which has been cycling for 2 weeks. The ammonia is still 0, nitrites are still pretty high > 2ppm and the nitrates are fluctuating a bit. Is this normal for 2 weeks in? i would have thought that the nitrites would have come down by now - at least after the water change.

Thanks!
Sean

By doing a water change you will only prolong the cycling period. You are removing alot of the good bacteria that is tying to colonise the rocks etc.

I dont recomend doing any water changes whilst waiting for a tank to cycle. once the tank does then do a water change.

Okay, thanks...some of the articles I read call for one a week during cycling, every two weeks, etc. I was just a bit concerned that the nitrie levels were too high. I won't do a water change again if it speeds things up.

Thanks,
Sean
