Setup (coming soon)
Decor (coming soon)
Plants (coming soon)
Fish (coming soon)

Tank 2 (quarantine/startup tank)

Equipment
125l Fluval tank and stand
Fluval 3 plus internal filter
Fluval tronic heater (150 watt)

Setup

Day 1
I started out by washing the sand I got from argos, it was freezing cold outside but I battled on :) after about an hour or so I had managed to get the sand washed and water running clear.

I cleaned out the inside of the tank and did some general tidying up.
(Sorry I forgot to take a picture of the tank before I added the sand)

Here is the first picture with the sand I just washed placed into the bottom of the tank.

I started to arrange my rock and bog wood in diffrent places for the time being I have chosen the following

This is a close up to show you how the rock looks, I have layed it flat. (the idea is to have some nice grass like plants growing around it)

Day 1 Part 2

Sorry didnt manage to get this uploaded yesterday, here is a picture of the tank filled with water. I am planning to run it a couple of days before I start the fishless cycle.

This is a few hours later and everything has started to settle down

Day 2

I added a couple of moss balls yesterday too, they are just plonked in for now. My bog wood is still soaking but seems to be almost crystal clear water so I should be able to add them soon.

This thread will be fully expanded and in more depth soon, just wanted to get some pics up and general info.

Thanks for reading

Added Day 1 part 2 and Day 2

I have also noticed after I woke up that my water is now a bit cloudy, and yesterday it was crystal clear

My water test form yesterday were the following: (after tank was filled and left for a couple of hours)

PH 7.0
Ammonia 0 ppm
Nirite 0 ppm
Nirate 0 ppm

I am going to test my water today shortly and post the results.

why test your water? unless your adding NH3

Just to double check the cloudy water isnt something other than the normal, and to see if anything has changed since day one.

personally, i would get an external for the rio, it will look nicer and is soo much easier to clean, as you dont put crap back into the tank.

also, what is the red stuff on the rock? if its a metal deposit i would remove it quickly.

It is only a temp filter at some point I will be swapping it out and its a fluval 800 tank I have btw :)

In regards to the rock I went nuts trying to scrub it off are you saying I should chip it off?

he means remove the rock from the aquarium, it could reek havoc with your water parameters.

if you want rock you know is aquarium safe try this site:

I was adding my bog wood today so I have removed the rock just to be on the safe side.

Just concered about this cloudy water, guess I will leave it another day or so before I start to panic.

Update

Sorry been slacking updating this thread, anyways here are some more updates.

Been in a fishless cycle for a good few days now! so far so good.

Added some new rock which is safe!
Added some new plants (real) some look a little brown I got them very cheap however they are alot greener now and must be lapping up the fert :)
Washed bog wood, moved a little.
Moss balls moved.

(More real plants to be added soon)

just a bit of a safety concern, im a bit OCD sometimes

is your tank upstairs?

if so does it spread accross the joists? or it could sink into the floor if it is not concrete

Yeah it is upstairs, and the tank is spread across the joists. We had a industrial sewing machine in almost the exact position for about 5/6 years now which we have worked out far exeeeds the weight almost double (not a surefire way of saying its ok I know)
