I have been thinking of keeping these fish in my 13000lt pond for some time now,but would like to hear other peoples experiences before I decide to go ahead.
My pond is a mixed pond, with Koi,Goldfish,Orfe,Roach,Rudd and tench. The pond is planted with the usual oxy plants and lillys, and filterred through a UV up to a home made,3 section filter.
I am well pleased with the filtration I have going. Water is pumped into an "open" chamber via 3 outlets to get plenty of oxygen moving and catch all the larger solids. It then overflows into the first "filter pond" which is 1m long by 2m wide and filled with 10 inches of 10mm stone and heavily planted with marginal plants. The water from here is then forced UNDER another dam,so forcing it through as much gravel as poss, and up into a third chamber, which is a mirror image of the previous one. From here its just a small waterfall ride to the pond!
Anyways, back to Stertlets......the water is crystal clear so viewing a bottem dweller would be fine, but are they hard to keep?
How hardy are they come the winter?
Over to you guys :good:

I am building a pond and want to keep a sterlet in it too so would be very interested if anyone had any advice?

You might be better off looking up the department of fisheries or aquaculture in Russia. They have been farming sturgeons commercially for a few years now in an attempt to prevent them going extinct. Sterlets would have a similar lifecycle but don't get as big as the sturgeons being farmed.
