As I'm a dunce and can't remember, how long does it usually take the little tykes to burp out an air bubble? he swallowed one when I was moving him to a different tank and hes not very happy with me. (I think he is blaming me ;) )

This brutes a big bad boy, so what measures do you suggest? Just fast him for a day or two? I have him in the quarentine tank so his poor fins can grow back. Hes very vicious and is forever trying to get at the divider, so I have him off to the side and I need to replace his plants because he keeps tearing his silly fins on them.

Also, to kill two birds with one stone.. cory cats get on well with betta, right? Or would I just be better off getting a pair of apple snails?

i wouldnt worry about the bubble. it will pass.

my some of my bettas like to snack on apple snails. a few of them leave the snails alone. they all tear off the snails antennae and feller though :(

if you get cories, be sure to get 3 or more :)

Hmm. Cories probably won't work then in a divided tank... The sections would be too small (which is why I'm thinking snails)

Any other ideas for companion fish that can cope with a smaller area? I have a lot of water volume per section, just not the greatest amount of "floor space" in the world.

Though I could keep one large section, one small one and make a betta live in the bowl, I suppose... Hmm...

I have a ramshorn snail in w/ my betta and some cories and no problems. Betta Apollo loves to watch the snail... I'm thinking the snail is more his pet because I gave Dax my gold gourami (which was Apollo's pet) away.

And for reference, right now, the 16.5 gallon is split two ways (three once I put steel back into his section.) I mean a 1/3rd of a 16.5 isn't exactly small, but still :)
