Hi, I have a lot of static electricity on me. It is always worse in the winter. I get/give static shocks when touching light switches, supermarket trolleys, electrical appliances and people. It does not bother me apart from it smarts a bit. Recently I have had a few shocks when touching the water in the fish tank (to get snails out). Could this level of electric shock harm the fish if they happened to swim close to my hand ?(which they do, anything that goes in the tank they see as possible food). If so can you suggest any way I could "earth" the static electricity which I have? My fish are Cardinal Tetras, Common Pleco, Mollies and numerous fry, so all my fish are smallish apart from the Pleco. Thanks. :)

Well if you want to discharge the static then touch a lightswitch right before you put your hand in the water. When you get shocked, there's no more static. I wouldn't worry about your fish though. Fish themselves aren't grounded as they're floating in the water so they shouldn't get shocked.

well the fish is in water, it would have to jump out of the water and touch his finger...and even then i dont think it will harm the fish at all.

Recently I have had a few shocks when touching the water in the fish tank

Is that possible? :D The water should ground you. You may be getting shocked on your hood or somthing, but i dont think you can get shoked on water.

Hi, thanks for the answers. It sounds like it doesn't happen to anyone else! I don't like keep giving/getting shocks. I was worried about the fish getting one as they are so small compared to me. I am a she BTW! :) PS I get the shock as I put my hand in the water, it feels like a needle going into my finger.
