Hi,
I have placed one set of ceramic noodles into my existing tanks filter tray so that I can assist in cycling my new tank.

I have a lot more that will go into the new tank, could I place these in a stocking and hang them in the water of my existing tank so that they too will get bacteria on or do they have to go into the filter system proper.

Thank you

There is virtually no useful bacterial content in tank water as there is nothing for the bacteria to cling to so just submersing the ceramics won't do much. If you put them on the substrate they will gradually become colonised with bacteria (but only after the substrate has which itself takes time in a new tank) so the most efficient way is to be placed in the filter.

Thank you Aquascaper,
Unfortunately there is no more room in the existing tank filter system and the existing substrate if pretty much full of plants and rocks etc to go into the new tank,I might swap half of the old noodles from my existing tank and put them in the new tank mixed with the new ones, when I eventually get it set up,still waiting for the stand, hopefully that will aid in some fashion to colonise the new ones.

Cheers for that.

As long as you leave 3/4 of the mature media in the existing filter you should get away without any issues and the 1/4 you move over will help enormously to cycle the new filter.
