Starting a rescue

Hey all...

I'm one of those poor saps who ends up with every single unwanted animal in a five mile radius and it's starting to be a little big of a strain on me space-wise and financially. So, I thought I'd bounce an idea off of all of you. I thought I'd set up a web site with a place to make donations and see if folks in the general public want to help me out. Do you all think this might work? My goal is to live someplace with more space and to have more resources for rescue.

I volunteer for a feral felines rescue NOT fostering or adopting any cats, so I do try to help out in other ways.

thats a great idea! I thought about starting a rescue when Im older. possibly dogs. But go for it! Im gald theres someone who cares

On the one hand, I think you'll have problems. There are thousands of con sites out there trying to get people to donate online. Many of them with heart wrenching pictures and stories, but they are simply a con front for people who prey on the kindly folk.

On the other hand, there seems to be a continual stream of people who do donate to these cons, so I guess they may well contribute to you. I don't know where you are, but if you can get a formal registered charity status or similar, you are more credible in the eyes of potential donors, not to mention the tax advantages.

Speaking of tax etc., if you are receiving donations, and are collecting them with charitable intent, the charities commisions tend to watch very closely that everything is above board. If you are trying to do this unofficially, the tax authorities are just as vigilant.

I think it'a great idea! I Guess you'd need to do some research how to do it. I'm also a sap. Every cat I've ever had has been a stray and my dog is from the humane Society. I'm always trying to save the stray cats. One night I was outside in the freezing cold trying to get a kitten out of the sewer for 2 hours til my parents dragged me away. And it seems that all the stray or lost dogs come to our house. I'd love to work at the Humane Society someday or be an Animal Cop like on Animal Planet. But I don't know if I can handle the sad stuff. I cry when a hamster dieas at work! Sorry, I'm babbling, I just love animals.
