Hi

just a few questions, I'm thinking of getting a 75-80 ltr tank and making it into a FOWL but I'm a bit worried about light penetration as it's 60 cm high. will that require a stronger light ? or is that not particularly high. it's rather narrow too at only 30cm deep - is this not the best shape ? are the width one's easier to manage ?

I'm only wanting to add 2 clown fish and cleaner crew.

the other question is about powerheads - for a tank this big would a HYDOR KORALIA 2 - 2300 LITRES be sufficient ? or would I need another to perhaps break the water at the top maybe a nano, these Koralia's look rather big ! will they look a bit silly in a 80ltr tank ?

the other thing I'm concerned about it the skimmer - I'm thinking of using a TMC V²Skim 120 Nano Skimmer but when using these one's that hang from the back of the tank do you need to cut into the hood to get it on ? or are there often holes at the back on most hoods ?

thanks for your help

Ross

Lighting isn't so much an issue with a fowlr set up.

When you move onto reef keeping then lighting becomes a much more important factor.

In fact, having too much lightning can encourage nuisance algae which of course isn't the best thing in the world.

You wouldnt need a koralia 2 in an 80ltr. A koralia nano would probably do the job just fine though I would still add a very small 2nd powerhead as well attached to a spraybar or similar for surface movement.

As mentioned lighting wont really matter if its fish only, just need to get the lighting you like the colour of.

The V120 skimmer is great (I use it on my tank though I could really do with a bigger one). It sits inside the tank though so tanks up quite a bit of space (in a smaller tank).

A lot of tanks will have cut out sections in the hood which you can remove for pipes and stuff. For fitting most skimmers though you will still likely have to modify the hood a bit though.
