Hi Everyone.
Right bare with me...,
I appreciate this is a big thread but PLEASE read it and try to help me
Myself and my Girlfriend started up our first Marine Coral / Fish set up last April and were initially wrongly advised by a very poor local outlet (Obvious unbeknown to us at the time).
However we bought an Aqua 620 which was recommended at the time by the said store..

DISCLAIMER:: This link is purely only to show the tank I have NOT the store I bought it from!!!!!!
We spent several hundred pounds on setting up like getting the rock, substrate, coral etc, etc...
We soon came across problems as we were initially told that ordinary tap water would be OK to initially fill the tank (NOT RO water). This led to an increase in algae forming quickly etc, etc..
We have since found a much. much, much better outlet to go to and fell 100% confident in their advice knowledge.
We have learnt so much since first starting up but have come across problems but feel we are comfortable with our knowledge to date. We still have the aqua 620 (Unfortunately) and are having yet more problems. I personally feel that the filtration system, the compact T5 lighting, the fluctuation in temperature and the pure size of the tank is NOT suffice for the needs of that of a marine fish (20 gallons).
We initially had a few fish but unfortunately lost them along with a fair few corals because of lack of knowledge. We have since got this sorted and introduced a Maroon Clown (Which we both LOVE). He has been in the tank for about 4 months with no problem what so ever. However last Saturday we introduced a juvenile Blue tang (Paracanthurus hepatus) last Saturday. All has been fine but However I was looking at the fish today (As you do) and to my horror I noticed that the Maroon Clown has some 'Fin Nip' on his lower fins. I had a good look at the tang and it appears that this also has a SMALL amount of nip.
I have been closely observing the fish throughout the day and from what I have gathered it appears to be the tang that is the more aggressive one. They are not chasing each other around or nothing like that infact they seem really peaceful. Its just every now and then the tang has a little nip at the Clown.
I have done a little reading and it seems quite uncommon for specie of Tang I have to behave in such a way especially when only a juvenile. I was under the impression if anything it would of been the Clown that was territorially!
Will this stop over time / will they sort their differences or could this lead to a fatal incident??!!!
Can anyone give me a little advice or does anyone have any knowledge when it comes to Marine fish. Its quite upsetting to see this as I really love my fish
I feel my tank is far too small for my hobby and feel really angry at my local store for doing this to me as I saved for soo long to take this hobby up!!!! I feel really let down but I have never wanted to give it up as I just love fish and the corals and all the glorious natural things that come with it
I feel its time to get serious and purchase a more suitable set up. I cant afford nor have the space for anything big but just something around the... W 3.5ft x D 1.5ft. I really need some help in regards to what would be suitable for me keep this beautiful hobby going!!
Please help us..
Shaun.
