Hi,

Is it ok to use T8 starter units designed for tubes which are 15w on tubes which are actually 30w, the lights start up with a bit of flickering but then seem fine.

Does it affect the amount of light the tubes gives off and does it damage the tube?

I never really worried before on fish only tanks, but I am trying to grow plants now.

Does the SU get very HOT if you leave it running for a long time (>1/2hr)???

I would worry about the choke overheating too... I have often done it the other way round, ie gear for larger tube to drive a smaller one.

Our local electrical shop does 4 feet fittings with tube for £8, is it worth the worry ?

Its does get a little warm...think I will just get a 4 feet on instead of burning my house down.

Live and learn, thanks guys.
