Heya guys!!
bit of help if you can i already think i know but want your advice aswell, im sure most of you have had a look at me pics so know whats me tanks all about but neways a brief description is 88UKG 5' Reef Tank in habbitants so far are 2 clowns, 1 bi color blenny, 3 cleaner shrimp, 1 pencil urchin, 1 long spine urchin turbo snails red and blue leg hermits and nass snails.

i want a star fish thats gonna get in there and mix it up with my substrate! can neone reccomend what star would be best? my substrate is quite course crushed coral alot bigger than sand grains but not massive, so it needs to be able to dig in this and hold its own with all the other tank mates, ive read up on a few stars and some of them munch on corels obviously i cant be having that!

looking at brittles and sand sifters but want other options something with a bit of colour? i know you wont get many as bright blue doent camo with the sea bed too well! lol

Future stocking will include 1 peppermint shrimp, pair of purple firefish, a yellow tang, and finally a crispa nem then thats me all stocked up!

what u think? all ideas considered?
Cheers
Andy

Its tough, because a colourful alternative would be a Linkia, or a Fromia star, but neither will mix your sand bed. Neither will a Cuke, becase I fear the grains of sand are too course. Blennies/Gobies would also struggle with that form of substrate. Id say your only option, if you wanted a stirred bed, would be a sand sifting star fish. You dont see them all that often, so colour isnt really going to be that obvious! :p

thanks for the reply mate!! i didnt think i had an option really either and a sand sifter would be my only option ah well lol

now to find one i like lol

we have about 50 sand sifting starfish in stock at work

if you do come down don't forget to introduce yourself.
ask for Paul, I'm there everyday except Thursdays and Sundays :good:

Note: some of these "sand-sifting starfish" that are sold are NOT reef safe, though they may be advertised/sold as being so. BEWARE! ID the specimen at the shop, and either go and research teh various types or have done so before purchasing.
