Stand Question

Bought a 48x24x20 a few months back, didn't set it up as i didnt like this look of it, so i sold it and replaced it with a 48x30x18, which is double based, and the glass is 12mm all round.

I'm worried about setting it up due to the weight of the tank, i can get picture of the tank uploaded if anybody wants?

why are you worried about the
base of the tank and the weight
i had a 5x2x2 with a double bottom
it was 24 mm it should be ok

is it the proper cabinet for the job
if it is i would think it would be
ok a mate of mine used to make 5x2x2
stands out of chipboard and ply wood

i would think the cab to be
over engineered check out all
the joints and it it made of
wood or steel

with it been a cab you should be
able to reinforce by putting
a few extra few stays in but
i think it would be OK

I think you are right to be a bit concerned I Keep Fish. The glass alone will be quite heavy in that tank and the added 240 Kg of water plus any substrate will make things quite heavy at well over a quarter of a ton. A well designed stand can carry that kind of weight fairly well if the floor under it is up to the job. Even a 55 gallon tank with glass walls about 7 mm thick and only holding less than 200 litres is something worth carefully considering before setting it up just any old place.
