Stalk Growing From Moss Ball..?

A few days ago I noticed a little stalk with five fingers at the end growing out of one of the moss balls I have. None of the other moss balls have it, and I had never seen this before. I searched the internet for an reason, but I can't find anything about it. So that's why I'm bringing it to you guys. What do you suppose it could be? A little branch to soak in more nutrients?

Maybe a plant attached itself to the moss ball?

It wasn't there when I received the moss ball. But I plucked it off.
