So it's finally official, I will be getting my tank upgrade up sometime next month. Have decided on somewhere between around a 70-75G tank. I'm not such a newbie this time around, so I want things done how they should have been done the first time. Tank is getting drilled with a nice overflow instead of that crappy overflow with a siphon tube.

Anyways, I'm in a dilemma now. After looking at some nice tanks, I'm trying to decide from the following.

75G Long (284L)
Dimensions: 72 x 18 x 12

70G Square (265L)
Dimensions: 30 x 30 x 16

While I was never planning on having a square tank, after looking at pictures I was drawn in. The only thing i'm worried about, is that I will be wanting some larger fish (like tangs, for example) and am not sure whether the square would be suitable for them at full size. Suggestions please :)

Hi Nemo.
If you go with the square tank, it will give you more depth to add corals so the square will benifit you this way. It would also be fine to keep yellow tangs and other smaller tang species in the square.
As for the long, it is of bigger volume, though maybe not enough bigger to add anough fish, but still :p. Personally I prefer to look into a long tank as it makes the tank look bigger, and it gives the fish, like tangs, a longer "run-way".

Yeah it depends on what you want to stock it with. The cube wouldnt be big enough imo for tangs but would make a really lovely display tank with lots of options for aquascaping and coral placement.

The longer tank would give more swim room but it will still wouldn't go for the larger tangs (as they only have 12inchs to turn around in). This will be a lot more difficult to create a nice looking scape in too (I had a long narrow tank and doing anything with the rockwork was a nightmare because you just dont have enough room).

Personally I would go for the cube as it will end up as a nicer looking display (or go for a slightly shorter but wider and deeper tank such as a 4x2x2).

I would probably only be looking at a kole or yellow tang. The cube is so delicious sounding... Tough choice.

So I was just thinking. If I get this 75G Long, it's only a foot tall. How tall does a tang (more specifically a kole) get?
I don't want him hitting his head!

I was physically looking at different tanks today, and I think I may actually just stick with a regular 75G, which is only 4 feet long, so it's a little taller. a 75 Long just... looked too long and a square would not be realistic with my planned stocking.
