ive just added a spray bar to my fluval 4..........and noticed that the hole that u leave uncovered for the air to get in is pushing water out......should it be doing this?

also.....do the water jets into the water contain oxygen?

Hi Teknikz,

With a spray bar you don't really need the venturi - I would personally close it off or put in the blanking plug if you still have it.

The oxygen exchange is done at the surface of the water by the turbulence rather than by the bubbles. The bubbles just create more surface area which helps expel CO2 and absorb oxygen.

I have a spray bar on my fluval 4 and I have blanked the hole as this lets out too much water. I have the spray bar a couple of mm above the surface so that more oxygen is carried into the tank (harlequin's love it!).

Losi,

In my harlequin tank I have an external Fluval 104 and internal Fluval 2 Plus (long story, all to do with a leaking filter and emergency filtration..).

The harlequins love to play in the water flow from the two filters - I was worried at first that it might be too high a flow rate. I will be fitting a spray bar to the 104 soon - just got to do a bit of DIY to get a 103 spray bar (16mm hole) fitted to a 104 (18mm pipe).....

Cheers, Eddie

Eddie, sorry when I said Fluval 4 what I meant was 304 (external as well).

THEY LOVE IT....all they need is little surf boards and they would be champions!!!! 8)

and another thing............

yeah they dont seem to do a spray bar for externals (new model) I have to find a bit of pipe that would fit tightly round the spray bar and the fit to the outlet of the filter..nightmare!!!!!!!
