Spotted Silver Dollars?

Hello, I'm new here! I recently purchased 2 baby silver dollars with many small black spots. However, the guy at the fish store said that they would only have their spots for a little bit until they grew up . . . Is this true?

They tend to fade a bit, but some retain their spots in some form when adult

lol, they are nothing to do with growing up. indeed well kept adults will show them.

dollars often show spots, like those, above and below the lateral line. as to why? well it seems we are unsure. it could be breeding practice. or indications of social interaction. but, as i said, well kept dollars will show these, throughout their lives.
