Ok my GF's grandma (who she lives with atm) has a probably 6 inch spotted raphael catfish. The problem is its at least 10 years old and the sole fish in a 20 gallon H and she wants to get something she can see all the time instead of it, but doesn't want to give it to a fish store cause she wants to make sure it gets taken care of. I want to eventually move it up to my 75 gallon, but for the time being (i have a 1 inch panda garra in the 75) i want to keep it in the 29 gallon i have in my sig. I know my floor is already crowded but it doesnt come out that much right? so if i make 1-2 more hides would it work on a temp basis? I have no experience with these types of catfish so everything welcome, except insults, and those are welcome if they are funny.

Could do. The very minimum for spotted is actually 29 gallons!

They are nocturnal, so during the day they just hide in caves, so there should be couple of those. During the night time they move around a lot, and actually eat during the night time, too. So givin it few pellets after the lights are out should do.

They can also be loooong times without eating at all when moved to a new place!

I have a striped one, and she didn't eat for 1,5 months when she moved with us.

In temporary basis, yep.

These guys only have a life span of 8-10 years, personally I would suggest leaving him be and restock at a later date.
