Aw how cute is he!? Ferdinand came in the mail today and already feels at home. No bars! This guy is only 2 inches! Ferdinand is in a 20 gallon with my goldfish hence the little fins above him in the first picture.

He is lovely indeed  Just a little word of caution though (sorry make that a few words of great concern):
I have found these chaps to be extremely sensitive to changes. Be that changing to another tank or water quality or fluctuations in PH. I'm now left with one only and she seems to be doing well (if I was superstitious I whouldn't say this). I started off with 4. One died the day after I received it. Another a few days later. Another several months later when I introduced CO2 to my tank and my PH dropped. Hence the one that's left now :/

I'd be very very unsure of how well yours would do with goldfish - both having very different requirements in order to thrive (not just survive). Temperature being one of them. With your goldfish being huge waste producers, you're going to struggle to keep your tank with low nitrates in a 20 gallon.
Also remember to feed it some live food as well as frozen - they require quite a meaty diet - these are not algae eating plecs at all. They will also not compete for food - so if the bloodworm or whatever you feed it, is scoffed up by the goldfish, that's it - no food for your L255.

Sorry, I don't want to sound patronizing, but I'm just very aware of how delicate these beautiful fish are and just trying to help you :)

Good luck

No problem, I've been told the same thing over at Plecofanatics. The funniest thing though, is I asked the breeder and he said they'll do just fine with goldfish. Tosh, he's in a heated 10 with female bettas for now. This really bites, I paid $55 and I don't even know if he's going to make it. Crossing my fingers for him though.

Yikes ! I can't believe he actually bred them though ! Sounds more like a dealer / seller's "advise" than a breeder. Anything for a sale hey ? Of all people he should know better. What utter nonesense :grr:

Anyway, if it makes you feel slightly better, the ones I lost (including postage) were about £40 each - yeah that's about $70 each :/

Hope he keeps going strong ! Just keep a good eye on him. Good luck

Ouch Bloozoo! That's horrible money to lose, I'm sorry!

Thanks for the support. Part of his waffer has been broken up and I know the girls won't eat it, the brats only eat live foods, so here's hoping it'll be gone tonight and he'll be a little fatter.

OK, but just remember as I said they don't really eat algae at all and require more of a meaty diet - so they need stuff like bloodworm etc. - that should hopefully fatten him up

Oh, I've got tons of those. Those are the only thing the bettas will eat, live bloodworms. I'll pull the girls out and stick them in the empty 10 and feed him cause they'll scoff it up so quick. He's a bit darker this morning, if I toss a towel over the tank all day will it throw off his nocturnal senses? I want to calm him down a bit. -_-
