Hello, I, am am new to this forum.
Am am part of another forum but it's primarily saltwater.
I am looking for a couple of tank mates for my spotted climbing perch,
(my current tank is a 20 gallon with soft slightly acidic acidic water)
I was think either 3 Congo tetras or 3 Odessa barbs
Maybe either a crayfish or 2 clown loaches

The tank has low light and fake plants

All answers appreciated

What are the dimensions of this 20g?

I have four Ctenopoma acutirostre in my African 5x2x2 tank, but they got on fine in my Rio240 too. Buy them as a singleton or 3+, a duo often ends up with a bullied submissive fish.

Your tankmate ideas are not good choices for the tank size you have in mind (in a 4-foot tank a group of 6-10 Congo Tetras would be great; Odessa Barbs are hard water fish; Clown Loaches need a 6-foot tank; Cayfish may well be attacked).

African Butterfly Fish make good tankmates, each ABF needs at least 30x30cm of water surface. You do not want anything that is a boisterous feeder or is quite zippy (my four are much happier since my Barilius group left my 5x2x2 to goto "MartinS").

Depending upon the tank dimensions, you might be able to add a Synodontis.
