after a trip to wharf aquatics i just couldnt resist a trio of spotted climbing perch. after having to sell my previous perch ive always wanted another. i got 3  very small but if they grow as big as the pthers ive had they should be big in no time. ill get pics tomorrow after they have settled in :good:

On the presumption that you are taking about Ctenopoma acutirostre, I say good choice!

I started with a group of five 2cm SL youngsters, but sadly one simply "vanished" in the Rio240 about six weeks ago and then just two weeks ago another one died of no obvious cause in the 540l. The remaining three are growing in size (~3cm SL now) and confidence (at times they show their predatory instincts, yet are pretty oblivious to their current tankmates). I'm really looking forward to the slow development of my trio and hope there is a male (with spines on gill plates) plus two females that will reach ~13cm SL over the space of a few years.

yeah it is this fish ive got. cracking fish and i missed my old one so ive now got some more  with a good heat and plenty of decent food they should grow up in no time my old one was in with my discus and ate like a pig but became very adventurous and friendly. i sold him at about 4 inches as i was getting a big group of cardinals.......

My pair were hitting 6"+ when i sold them :(

How is the trio getting on?

I know you plan to add them to the monter tank you aquired recently, but what size tank are they currently in who are their tankmates? (Half expecting you to say QT)

Are they eating well? My ones were a little worryingly "passive" in the 540l, letting the "Hill Trout", Humphead Glassfish and Yellowtails get "first dibs" when I added Prima Discus, part of the reason I brought them back inside (planning to transfer them from the 54l to a partitioned section of the Rio240 by the end of this weekend, as they will get more space to roam in plus a forest of Ludwigia repens to explore/lurk in).

they have settled in very well and are all very active. they dont seem to go mad for food yet except when i put bloodworms in for them... they are currently in a planted 90L tank until i free up mt rio 180 to grow them up properly, this tank is being used to cycle my media for the big tank and will become a grow out tank for smaller fish before they get put in the bigger tank with the oscar! they dont sem to like prima but my perch i use to own would eat pretty much anything they could get in their mouths, which was most things

im going back to wharf soon and was wanting to get another 3 perch. would this be better with a group of 6 rather than 3? in the past ive only ever kept 2 together but wondered if they would be better off in a larger group?
these have to be 1 of my favorite fish so the more the merrier :good:

I bought 5 originally as I had read that they often need numbers to spread aggression. Having sadly lost two, I'm in a quandry about whether to buy two more myself...

But on this note, I have also read (but it may not be true) that introducing new C. acutirostre to an established group can end in disaster! It was suggested that all Leopard Bushfish should be removed from the tank, ideally have a little furniture move around and then add the old and new ones together.

I saw a beautiful ~12cm SL specimen yesterday in the LFS on my delivery round, looked lovely, I hope someone gives it the home and tank size it deserves.
