Fish Crazy
Hello all.
I have lurked this forum, and others, for a while. Searching for ideas, advice ect. I joined this one in hopes to get some ideas for one of my tanks on helping cure an issue with a sick severum.
I have been into aquaria for many years now. I got into the hobby with a friend who had a 55 gallon marine aquarium and a 125 gallon freshwater. I learned quite a bit, as he was kinda lazy when it came to his tanks, so I learned all about the care, maint, treatment of various diseases in both marine and fresh systems. I took a break from the hobby for a few years, but got back into it after I had my first born (I used it as an excuse anyways to get a tank...hehe).
I have some pics of my tanks I will share here. I have a 10 gallon that was originally a glo-fish tetra tank for the kiddo. It had 3 glo-fish tetras, 3 glo-fish danios and the common pleco I have in my 75 gallon now (I used the pleco as the excuse to get more and bigger tanks....working on a 150 gallon...ain't convinced the Mrs. yet....she says it's fine in the 75...haha). This tank was too hard to maintain. Smaller tanks usually are, I have found. After I got the new house, I set the 10 gallon back up and currently raising an electric blue jack dempsy in there. He got tore up by the others in the 75 when he was small, so I saved his tush and have him in here until he is big enough to go back in the 75. Then it will be a 10 gallon shrimp tank. There is a small temeniki pleco in this tank as well. So I used the excuse of it being to hard to keep up to buy a 38 gallon bow front. That tank has become my most stable and well established small fish aquarium. My most heavily planted as well. It has the tetras (many varieties), 3 corys, 2 siamese algae eaters, a temeniki pleco (think that's.the correct spelling), a bunch of free snails (they are food for my pea puffers and do a.great job keeping the tank clean), some black mollies, a few oto's, some ghost shrimp. It's a diverse tank. For some reason it works without any issues, despite being perhaps slightly overstocked. What's a few extra fishies amongst friends. Then I have a 30 gallon breeder that was given to me. I have a albino bristlenose in there with 3 pea puffers, 1 cory (sadly 2 other corys died a year and a half ago and I never replaced them), 5 black mollies (who just crapped out about 30 more) and a single survivor ghost shrimp. It had fancy guppies and stuff, but they vanished. I built a stand for this tank so the kids could stand on a ledge and check out what was going on in there. Now, it's just my 3rd tank...haha. Then I have my 75 gallon. That has my green severum, peacock cichlid, kribensis cichlid (this is the guy I couldn't remember what it was in the other thread...haha), jewel cichlid, bala shark, rainbow shark, a horsehead loach (just figured out he was still alive...ain't seen him in months...haha), and my common pleco. I had other assorted african cichlids in there, but the idea of overstocking them didn't work out in my case. Most died off. One had babies that were quickly made lunch. So I'm left with the guys listed. This tank has very little in the way of plants. Like I said in the other thread, finding plants that can endure in here has been a mission.
So without further adooooo....
