I got a sponge filter for my 10 gallon, cause the only other filters at my lfs were way too big
are sponge filters ok?

Yes it should be ok... They usually do an ok job at mechanical filtering and excellent job at bio-filtering...

What do you intend to put in your tank? Just one betta?

about the fish, i was hoping to have a few male betta's (with dividers, of course) and a apple snail or two. but if that doesn't work, just the betta i have now with some other compatible fish (2 at most)
i haven't got to try out the filter yet cause my tank is empty, but here is a pic

In principle, most sponge filters are very simple - not much place for it to go wrong in my opinion. You should go ahead and try it...

ok, thanks for the help
i can't wait to get this tank cycling...
