sponge filter

This is a stupid question but ive recently bought a 1 inch airstone and i dont know how to attach this to my sponge filter... trying to work it out it looks like there is no way... i duno... plz help. I now have it attached to another air pump.

Does the instruction say you must attach an airstone to it? Depending on the manufacturer, some suggests to add and others don't. Many people use their sponge filter without an airstone....
