Alright so ive got two questions regarding sponge filters and any feedback is appreciated,
First, is the sponge filter just as effective of put in under the gravel or in the middle of it?
Second, will it work just as effectively if it was hooked up with an existing UGF network?
ANY VIEWS?

A sponge filter goes in the water, not the gravel. It can be powered by an air pump or powerhead. It is intended to be a bio and mech filter.

A sponge prefilter, which is a coarser sponge than a regular sponge filter, goes on the intake side of a filter, pump or powerhead and is primarily intended to trap larger solid waste rather than have it go into the filter. These need to be rinsed weekly to prevent clogging and inpeding the intake flow.
