Hi all
Some years ago i kept a freshwater tropical tank (4ft) and used a Powerhead undergravel filter. In all the time i had the tank i had virtually no water problems and obviously no filter maintenance. Recently i have returned to fish keeping and purchased a juwel tank complete with spongy type filters. Are these filters regarded as better? I find the constant changing of sponges a drag and am thinking about ripping the filter out and replacing it with my old powerhead and an undergravel system again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

You shouldnt be changing then that often.
I dont touch mine before 3 months atleast of a clean.
Also, you can just wash them. Dont need to buy new ones all the time, except carbon.

Personnaly I think Juwel internal filters suck anyway and should be ripped out and replace with a proper external filter.

Sponge filters are much better than most people give them credit for. It doesn't need to be replaced, just rinsed during water changes. They're certainly better than a UG filter.
