My 2 orandas are doing fine. For some reason, one of my bigger orandas don't eat the sinking flake food i put in. My smaller oranda is a faster swimmer and get to the food before it sinks to the bottom (where the bigger oranda usually scavenges). I don't feed too much in the case where i have over fed my smaller goldfish, but my larger one seem to get no leftovers. To fix the problem, i feed my goldfish 1 spirulina disc in addition to the flakes my smaller fish eats. My larger oranda seem to love the spirulina disc, and i am thinking of making the disc the larger oranda's main diet. I am inferring that goldfish are mainly herbivorous and feeding the discs would be alright for a main diet? And for the treats and extra protein, is it alright to feed my orandas sinking shrimp pellets? Thanyou for any responses

You could try feeding in two seperate spots, so when the fast one is feeding at one end you could try and feed the other at the other end.
Goldies do like spirulina as part of the diet but you should only feed it maybe three times a week.
You could try making your own gel food which you can feed to them both.

1 can of tuna in springwater
1/2 a cup of frozen peas
1/2 cup of green veg such as spinach, carrot, etc
2 packs of gelatin

in a blender whizz together the tuna and veg and then in a saucepan heat the gelatin then microwave until clear. Mix everything together then cool and then place into ice cube trays or a 9x9 rectangular tin and cut into bit size portions. You can keep some out and freeze the rest.

You can also feed small portions of fruit such as orange and banana.

Goldies like a variety in their diet and the key is to balance the protein with the veg.

Bloodworm and other live foods can be mixed instead of the tuna if you wanted to downsize the portions a bit and just add a few veg to it.

Forgot to mention this. When feeding flake food, or any other fish food, my larger fish don't even take interest in it or even, don't even know its food. Is it true that if you keep feeding the goldfish say, flakefood, daily, will the larger goldfish start to take interest in the flakes and eat it as its main diet???

If all you give it to make sure it eats something is the wafers then that is all it will take.
Start by cutting back on the wafers by giving it a half for a few days then a quarter and add a bit of flake. After a week it shouldnt be getting any wafers and you should only offer the flake.
Mind you, saying that i dont like flaked foods anyway for fancy goldies and think they should be fed as a treat rather than a staple.
Making your own gel food is a lot healthier and you can change the ingredients as you go. Im sure your fussy feeder would much prefer it and if not you let him starve until he does.
Have you ever tried offering boiled *4 minutes* deshelled squashed frozen peas? I dont know any goldie that wont eat them.

I have good news. I fed some flakes on one side as you told me for the faster fish and some other flakes on the other side and as it sank, the larger oranda took interest in it and ate it. For the peas, i have tried feeding my smaller oranda to cure swim bladder. The problem is that some peas i give my goldfish seem to big for my smaller goldfish. Can i just cut the peas up into smaller portions for my smaller oranda. Will the larger goldfish mind if the pea portions are too small for its size. And also, would it be alright to feed my goldies SHRIMP PELLETS in addition to the peas, flakes and blood worms (freeze dried)?
PS.
If i go ahead and boil the peas for 4 minutes, can i put the leftover peas back in the fridge or freezer and when feeding time comes, il just thaw the peas and give to my fish? Thankyou for responding to my recent posts and for any responses to this post. :)

If you boil too many peas then just leave to cool and put in the fridge as they will be ok for a couple of days and you can cut them up small for them but i preferred to squash them a bit so they could see them easier and not have to chew on them.
The shrimp pellets are ok to feed as well and im pleased he took an interest in the flake, maybe he just felt too scared to go near them with the other one there.
