Hey guys,

I have been wondering what bottom feeder I can use for my 2ft cube tank. I have been thinking polka dot/horsefaced/chain loaches but also looking for info on spiny eels.

I am finding it hard to just get general info on them about things like what they eat and what size they get. I did a search on here and found CFC saying feed them bloodworm and they get to about 1'.

I am just wondering how they would be in the following set up:

2ft Cube (225 litres)
Sand substrate, with lots of plants but only one piece of wood

Fish:

2 koi angels
6 cardinal tetra
4 otos

As I said, I don't know anything about them so any information appreciated. Perhaps even interesting alternatives.

Thanks, Dana. :)

Edit: I am only looking to put one species of bottom feeder in the tank.

The smallest Spiny Eel, the Peacock Eel reaches about 12-14" and can be feed on a diet of live and frozen Bloodworms, however, they can be fussy eaters and often refuse all put live foods. 225L for one is fine, I would even advise a group of three. A fine substrate is best to allow them to burrow.

I am sure CF will be along, I know that he keeps three 12" Peacocks in his 200g.

hi!

i would sugest to get a peacock eel forst because they're the easiest to take care of. alo make sure u have a thik layer of sand or gravel because eels like to hide in the sand/gravel with their eyes and nose stiking out.

I can see no problems with adding 2 or 3 peacock spiney eels to your new tank, i wouldnt risk any of the larger species though as they probably would see the tetras and ottos as snacks.

Cool

I wouldn't want anything bigger to be honest. I don't really hold well with keeping fish over 12".

Can you give me any general info about them? I have found a few pics but not too much else. When can they be added to the tank? Will the disturb my plants?

I am also a bit worried about feeding. I feed my fish frozen bloodworm weekly or so. How can I give these guys more than that without the other fish scoffing them all? Are they good at getting food?

Thanks :)

They will dig up plants all the time I am afraid that plants don't do to well with them.

Hmmmm, I think I was going to decide against them anyways but that's just sealed it.

I don't think the tank is big enough for a 12" long fish. Will probably go for some loaches.

Maybe horsey ones, they're so funny!!

I currently have a 2 foot tank with a peacock eel. He's happy but theyre a problem to feed. Get live black worms. Theyre worth buying!
Thanks for the info but I have decided against it. I don't want any really big fish.

Shame as I like them but they are too big for my tank.

Perhaps I want something a little different.

Some of my favourite fish are the ones tht you don't see all the time making it more exciting when they do come out.

Oh, and I think your caps lock is on. ;)
