I have kept three speciese and have never had any major problems. there are many different spicies of "spiny eel". I would avoid the ones commonly called fire and tyre track eel as these can grow over 2' long. the peacock spiny eel is the most common "smaller" eel and tops around 10". they require live blood worm at first but some may take frozen. some will move on to taking sinking pellets later. they require fine smooth sand or gravel to allow them to burrow. they may get bullied by aggressive fish like red tailed black sharks which can be terratorial when large. they are quite adaptable to water chemestry, just avoid very hard alkali water PH of6.5-7.5 will be fine) and a temperature of about 25C.
