Today in Seapets in Ipswich we came across a pair of very nice gobies in the freshwater section labled as "Funky Gobies". They were fifteen quid each.
Gotta love those made up names.
Obviously we've found no information on the 'net about them under this name, so does anyone have any ideas what they might be?

Description:
  • about 4 inches long
  • tubular elongated appearence
  • blunt, blenny/mudskipper-type face
  • large eyes towards the top of the head
  • thick lips
  • short fins
  • mottled in shades of beige (tan)
:dunno:

Seapets also had a Dragon Puffer sharing a tank with discuss.. but that's another story...

They are one of the Awaous species if they are the same fish as one of the less nice LFS were selling around here, not sure of the full scientific name though.

Yes, I think you might be on to something there, they do have the same body plan as the candy-stripe Awaous strigatus except proportionally longer and different colours & markings.

I shall have a look for pictures of the Awaous family.

Thanks.
