I just need some advise on how to spawn rosey barbs, i have two males and two females in spawning colours right now but i don't know how to get them to do it...i have an extra 10 gallon tank to raise the fry in with a bush of java moss in the middle, should i put the two males and the two females in or just one male and both the females?... any advice would be great

Both males and both females would be best to get more of the eggs fertilized.

Triggers, I wouldn't know, seeing as how I haven't any barbs to breed. Speculation: water of different temperature (probably warmer since they breed during spring), live or frozen foods, and water with lower pH as well. I don't think it should be too hard to induce breeding though.

To save the eggs, place a net in the tank to allow for eggs to sink to bottom but to keep the adults from getting to them.

I described my Barb breeding strategy in this thread. I've used it successfully with many barbs, (and characins incidently). Babrus conchonius is one of the easiest egglayers to breed and raise. If the fish don't start to spawn when it gets light, drop the water level to about 6"/150mm, although it is rarely necessary.

hmmmmm.....maybe they spawned while i wasn't around and ate their eggs...man that would suck! how long will it take them to spawn again???

I wish I knew how mine did it. I had 2 boys and 2 girls, and one day during a water change, noticed a bunch of little dudes swimming. I had gravel then, so I'm sure the eggs fell in between them and I had a few survive! I found 14 fry, and still have 6 living 9 months later!

maybe i'll try a water change then...i see your from hamilton...i'm from londodn!!!

If you keep the sexes together and the conditions are right, they will drop a few eggs almost every day. The rason you seperate them is to allow the females to fill with eggs so you get a sensible sized spawning.
