:hyper: :hyper: :hyper: I just was checking the Cory tanks with the new Cories, deciding if I should do a water change.

And I found my San Juans doing the sexy dance!~And I found eggs!~And they were easy to transfer!

The San Juans are in the panda tank with the melinis, the arcuatus, and the pandas including the new long fin pandas. They all get along great together and like the same conditions, I believe (a combination recommended by Bryan Epstein the supplier of the melinis, San Juans, and the arcuatus and Inchworm when I got the pandas.)

I had to put the eggs in the pepper tank net. I could not get the net into the panda tank w/o taking everything apart. The pepper tank is a little warmer so I hope the eggs will be ok. If not I will be ready next time.

There are many eggs on the Java moss/sword drift wood too. I left those to see how it goes. I interrupted the spawn, so I hope they will get back to it.

The sad news is that I have now lost 2 pandas since adding the new panda babies: 1 long fin baby and today I found an adult regular panda. I had lowered the water temp to panda temps a few weeks ago. It is sitting at about 70 f. Apparantly the San Juans like it.

I did a water change, but the water tested good. I did one anyway just in case there is an oxygen problem. I am guessing it is stress. That has been such a super stable tank for over a year. But it is common for me to lose fish, when I add new ones. I did not quarantine because I know the supplier, and he had them a long time before shipping them to me. The water is quite different here from the Bay Area where they had grown out. I have had no problem with any other species in that shipment. So again I think it is stress for the pandas.

Sorry for your losses Sue but great news with your San Juans!
Any pics for us?

I may try to get pics of the albino pepper fry I released this week. I doubt I will get pics of the San Juan eggs. If the San Juans dance again and the camera is handy, I might try to get that.

What particularly are you interested in seeing?

The San Juan dance would be great to see but any pics of your cories are a bonus! I think they are lovely and your photos from the other day were great. :good:

For your pleasure: San Juans spawning

There is one male that is quite avid

Quite an audience!

These are the eggs I left in the tank, but I will probably remove the egg laden driftwood/moss as there are snails that I know will be delighted with them. There is a boy hiding in the moss

Hard luck on the panda losses sue. Me too also looking forward to any pics of ur corys :)

Edit: Yay you got pics. The female San Juans is a big girl! What substrate do u have? What tank size also? Amount of corys? Sorry for all the questions. Trying to see how many corys i can stock in the coming weeks.

I spoke to the supplier. He said he had some trouble with the long fin pandas when he first got them. (The pandas were supplied to him. He did not breed them.) He said he found they liked it warmer in the 76 f range. So I will have to adjust the water temp again. Just when the San Juans got "happy." :X "Best laid plans...."

It is a 20 usg. She looks big and she is quite gravid, but the San Juans are a smaller Cory: about 2-2.5".

There are approximately less than 30 Cories. My pandas are a small variety and five of the pandas were just added and are less than an inch. There are five long fin panda babies just added, five arcuatus, five melini, five San Juans, and a passel of regular although small pandas--less than 1.5 inches. The tank is running a Penguin 200 filter and a Whisper 30 filter. There is only a light spread of QuickRite steralized commercial sand and a sprinkling of multi colored decorative gravel. The bottom is bare in spots where the Cories are active.

The tank has been running with all but the now 5 new panda babies for a year+. I think one Cory was lost quite some time ago, but I don't remember which now. So one of the groups of five is down one.

Got to give most of the credit to Corel Paint Shop Pro. But thanks :D I am quite impressed with the little lady.

What size are the fry when you put them back in with the parents?
Also how big is too big to be in with the eggs and newly hatched fry?
I need to know when to move them.

Great pics. I have never seen the San Juans before. Those look really nice!

What all corys do you keep? Do you breed them to sell or keep?

After watching mine grow... I don't think I could part with them. I don't have as many as you though.
I want them all, but only have a few. I am hunting a larger tank so I can have more though.

I hope to see more pics soon. I love your corys. They are so cool! :good:

There are pics of the long fin albino fry in that thread now. The smallest are an eighth of an inch w/o the tail. Just teeny tiny. As long as it is a species tank. The largest are maybe a quarter of an inch.

I think the 1/4 inch ones are too big to be with the eggs. I had a big spawn I added from the peppers and the eggs diminished. That is why I moved the fry out. I have two new spawns, one hatching, in the net now.

Will ghost shrimp bother them? I ask because the shrimp are twice the size of the big fry? I have 4 that are about 1/2 inch tail and all. I guess it is time to move them. I just worry about the shrimp, and maybe the danio hurting them.
Thanks for the info!
I am going to go check out your other pics. :good:

:hyper: Those are some cool pics. Those cories are GORGEOUS. Can't believe how big and fat that female is  . Great pics and I hope we are going to see some fry in a few days time.

Congrats. They must be really happy cories.

Keep us updated.
