hes been building nests like crazy in his little beanie. ive been letting them see eachother everyday except today. im putting them in the spawn shoebox tomorrow.
thanks for looking

Good luck, Sam!! They're gorgeous, I hope they come through for ya :flex:

Nice Black Orchid! I have a 3 month old pair of black orchid plakats that I will attempt to spawn in a month. Best of luck in your spawning attempt! What color do you think you will get?

thanks all!
im not too sure what i'd get i was hoping for some black coppers. the female is really taking a beating so i may switch her with the black orchids spawn sister.
kelly check ya pm :p :D

thanks

they spawned i saw them embrace about 10 and before i came to watch there were globs of eggs in the nest and overnight he made a HUGE nest under and around the leaf. there is easily 200+ eggs each time they embrace she drops at least 30 at a time. shes being good and helping him pick eggs up and putting them in the nest.
i will probably pull her around 1 o clock they should be done by then

massive nest pics from this morning before the spawn: oh and there are bubbles under the leaf too. plus stray bubbles all around the edge of the container.

and as of now with eggs, you can barely make out where the eggs are.

they hatched last night, looks like alot of babies :S . when should i start the bbs? today so they hatch by saturday or tomorrow so they hatch by sunday?
i hope i have enough baby grindals for the first few days.

Do your bb usually take two days?
I've been using the marine water and I'm getting about a 95% hatch rate (in the coke bottles! mind you :p ) and it's great. They hatch like a dream, I'm livin' large with bbs over here which is a good thing since the kribs eat so much

Aaanyway, start it today, and another tomorrow. They'll want to eat the day after tomorrow, so..

Also, you should see the bag of brine eggs I bought at the cichlid auction for twenty bucks! It's huge AND they're shrimp from Salt Lake, it's such a better shrimp than those from San Fransisco Bay and I can rarely find them in stores. I'll stick some in a bag when I send your fish.

sometimes they take 3 days, unless i just dont see the babies right away :S i havent quite mastered the art of decapsulating brine shrimp eggs. its hard :-(
i have plenty of coke bottles but i only have 1 hatchery. so i can only do 1 at a time unless you would like to share another way to do it. i would love some eggs if youre willing to share, tell me all the secrets. i havent been very pleased with the san fransisco bay brand hatch mix.

ill try to start one now, i think it may take a long time cause i cant put a light against it, i dont know, i dont really like hatching bbs its too tricky.

Thanks kelly, give me some tips and some eggs :D

well i took the father out last night after i disturbed everything by doing a WC i took him out cause i saw him gobbling up fry. well stupid me didnt think to put the cover back on his beanie, thats what i get for doing it late at night, well i went to bed and woke up to find a fishless container, found him behind an empty fish tank on the floor he has probably been out of water for about 6 hours i dont think he has any chance :byebye: :X :(
good thing is tho that the fry are fine and almost free swimming.
