"In South Korea, the most wired country on earth, computer gaming is a national obsession.

Top players, known as 'e-athletes', can earn hundreds of thousands of pounds and some are worshipped like pop stars.

The girl in the pink fluffy sweater giggles when I ask about the roll of paper she is clutching in her hand.

With a furtive glance at her boyfriend, she unrolls the poster. Written in felt-tip pen and decorated with hearts, it reads "Lim Yo Hwan - Marry Me!"

The boyfriend laughs. "I do not really mind", he says. "I like him a lot too. He is aggressive, he knows how to push."

Lim Yo Hwan, a pro-gamer who went undefeated for more than two years, is known as the Emperor to his legions of fans.

Some call him the David Beckham of the electronic sports world.

Anyone here ever been hooked on computer or video games or the internet etc?

When i was a young teenager i would have to say that i was probably quite obsessed with video games, but i think that that came about because of living in a pretty disfunctional family that was often in conflict back then and having a tough school life too, video games became a form of escapism for me back then, the world of video games was one of the few places where i cold escape and forget my problems in my everyday life etc.
Anyhoo, over the years i've grown into a stronger person, video games only took up a few years of my early teenage life. I still play them from time to time now days but not much at all (i still enjoy the escapism and enjoyment of playing video games, but i now have a life to lead and look forward too ). I have gone through phases of spending too much time on the internet but i think i'm a lot better now days, i can easily go for weeks without going on the computer.
I don't think i've ever been "addicted" to the internet or video games, but i have admit that i probably did spend too much time on them in the past.

How about you guys? How have video or computer games or the internet affected or shaped your life etc? Ever been hooked on a game probably too much for your own good etc? What do you think about the news article- do you think more needs to be done about the situation for the better or for the worse etc?
