i have a juvenile oscar and 2 juvenile texas cichlids, can i put in 2 powder blue cichlids? i have a 55 gal tank. will they co-exist?

please see my response in the identical thread you posted in Africans.

for future reference, it is generally frowned upon at TFF to post the same question in multiple forums. it makes it difficult to coordinate the advice you are given and clutters up the boards.

Maybe they will, maybe not. Doing this, however, is keeping them improprerly, taking chances you shouldn't be, and not keeping the fishes individual needs in mind. They are very different fish with very different behaviors and requirements.

I wouldnt do that. They will fight like two hobos over meat, and since mbuna are much more evolved at fighting, they will probably win. Its because all cichlids are very intelligent(oscars, for instance, are as smart as dogs) they need to use some sort of communication. Since these animals are on seperate continents, there cummunication is different, so different that signals of submission, for instance, may be misunderstood as agression signals, causing the stronger fish to get even more angry at the loser. And considering that mbuna can take on fish several times their size and be victorious, the oscars and texas cichlids are just not safe. And if they are big enough to avoid being conquered by the mbuna, the tank will turn into an unhappy warzone. :( Also, the mbuna need very alkaline, clear water in order to survive, and will be killed by stuff that may not affect the americans. On top of that, mbuna love to fight and need plenty of sparring partners in close vicinity. The south americans and the mbuna are just to different, trust me, ive had this expirience before.

I hope I helped,

a couple things.

as a general rule. mixing the 2 is a No No. but in cases such as keeping large agressive central americans keepers will often use a couple mbuna as dithers. but for your tank there I wouldn't

less your planning on getting a way way bigger tank, the texas are going to have to go. or the oscar and one texas.... you get the picture. but either way your going to have to have a 75 US gallon tank for one of either species.
