I have posted before about my ottos apparently not eating. I put algae tablets in which they totally ignore, they aren't cleaning any algae off the glass/rocks/plants, but they are still alive after 2 months so they must be eating something

I tried a piece of cucumber last week and it was totally devoured, but I only saw the platys eat it, and don't know if the ottos ate any.

The guy in the lfs yesterday told me ottos won't eat cucumber - so what will they eat? I don't want them to starve.

Also, is it necessary to have live plants? I'm thinking of switching to plastic but I'm not sure about the ottos.

Yes ottos will eat cucumber. Mine also like lettuce and love peas (Shelled).

I forget what website I was on... but it came from someone on this forum. Ottos require live plants in order to live for long periods in an aquarium. I don't have experience from this myself, but that it what I read. Maybe on www.planetcatfish
