My son wants a betta but I know nothing about them. I have a ten gallon aquarium with 5 glow light neons I could put I in I think. Or I could put I in with my ADF in a 2 gallon tank. both tanks have heaters and are kept at 78degrees. Which tank would be better for this fish and how do I know if it is healthy?

Hmmm, bettas and tetras are generally a no-no because the tetras are nippy and the betta is slow. And frogs give me the heebie-jeebies so I cannot recommend one with a betta :p
How's about...moving the frog into the tetra tank and putting the betta alone in the two?

My frogs have never hamed a fish, although they have taken the lives of many brine shrimp :p Go ahead and put the betta with the frog :)

Are their different kinds a bettas that would do better then others. Like I said I know nothing about them he just likes the colors.

If you want to put it in with the tetras I would highly suggest that you get a plakat (short finned betta),but they're not nearly as flashy and flowey as a long finned betta so your son may not be interested.

i would also put the adf in with the frog, and the betta alone. i have 4 adfs with numerous tetras in a 20 gallon, and a betta in a planted 5 gallon. The bettas so happy that he always has a bubble nest. Bettas are great fish, and i hope you enjoy yours.

ghost shrim
apple snail- with a new clutch of eggs

10 gallon
2 fire belly toads

5 gallon
betta

I get impression betta's like a small area to themselves. So in a 2 gallon I would probably leave the betta alone.

After trying betta's with tank mates (Panda Cory's) the only time it have been successful was in a 10G tank. In the smaller tanks (5G and 7G) one or the other was moved out.
