now this is probably the least appropriate way to choose corals ever, but i feel our tank is missing a bit of blue.

can you make me some suggestions for a nice blue coral?

30gal tank
250mh
doing well with everything from softies to sps so the fields wide open really, got spots with more/less flow etc etc

current corals are;
mushrooms
finger leather
yellow fiji leather
torch
candy cane
2 different acro's
pink bush
green star poylps
yellow polpys (don't know what these actually are, got a few popped up on a rock, just individual polyps, bright yellow and spreading fast!!)

Blue trupet coral.

(not the best pic ever, funny angle doesn't show the size too well, you can see about half of it there)

want something properly blue, not just whiteyblue anyway :D

thats quite a pretty formation of blue sponge

we've some blue sponge but it's not the same sort of shape as that, doesn't look half as pretty.

yeah we've looked at clams before, just a case of finding a nice specimin appropriately priced, not had any joy yet.

Just get a white coral and change the MH to a 20k+ bulb. Everything will look blue then :)

Some Acropora look quite nice and blue, however I think you are going to be quite hard pressed to get anything really blue. It is the last colour to be absorbed by the water, so most corals are not going to want to reflect the blue light as it is more likely to be absorbed.

Blue sponge is always worth a go, though the same species will grow in completely different fashions depending on the conditions it is in (nutrients, flow, light etc) so the same species can look completely different between one tank and another.

mmm interesting that with the colours being absorbed. learn something new everyday!

My blue damsel looked amazing, radiating a vivid, almost electric blue. Then when the blue bulb packed up... he looked really drab. Light colour really does play a great amount in how your fish and tank contents will look.

we could really do with some actinics on the tank, struggling to find a way to fit them in around the MH and the hood. we have a strange DIY hood and can't find anyway to attach them.

:/

Post a picture of it if you can. Theres always a way to make stuff fit...... that's what hammers are for :D

If you want some more mushrooms you could always purchase "true blue" mushrooms.
Here is a picture I found on the interweb!

lol, it's not it fitting that's the problem really, the problem is you have to remove the whole hood for access for feeding and stuff (complete PITA) so while we could attach an actinic to the hood we'd then have to disconnect it all every day just to put some food in the tank which is sure to end in disaster soon enough.

only way we've found to get another light on is get a clip on one like an arc-pod and clip that to the back of the tank. now we have a spare arc-pod and you can apparently get actinic bulbs for them. however we've been looking for bloody ages with no luck!
